In FL to be a security guard you must have a valid state security officer license. There are 2 types of security guards in FL armed (class "G") and unamred (class "D"). You must have both the class "D" & "G" to work as an armed security officer. You can NOT work as a security guard with just the class "G".

Effective January 1, 2012. You must complete the full 40 hours of class before you can get your Temporary "D" License or apply for your regular "D" license.
Cost of the licenses:
Class "D":
2 year Liscense $45
Processing: $42 ( You do not need to submit a fingerprint card or processing fee if you have submitted a card and fees within the last six months.)
